Free Stuff for use with Ulead Products

Our members frequently ask where they can get more things that can be included into or used in conjunction with their Ulead products.
These requests include things like transitions, video filters, sound filters, soundFX, backgrounds, 3D models, Smart Compositions and many others. I believe it will be of benefit to our members to have this post containing links to FREE stuff that can be used with or integrated into their Ulead products.

To prevent possible abuse by third parties using this post as a means of advertising items for SALE I am keeping this post LOCKED.
Having said that, this is YOUR forum and I invite you to submit items that you consider worthy of inclusion by way of a PM message to myself sjj1805.

Please submit items in the following format so that I can (hopefully) copy paste into this topic.

Title.
Description.
Link.

To use this I found it is best to save your video using the MJPEG compressor and then selecting a user defined file size matching one of those listed below. (You don't need a Nokia Phone - mine is a Sagem)

Question:
How can I convert all or any of the media files out there to 3GP format?

Answer:
The easiest way: download Nokia Multimedia Player with 3GP support.
Download it from here: http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,8764,42291,00.html (8MB)

1) Download and install player.
2) Launch Nokia Multimedia Player. Open your video file (avi or mpg).
3) Press File -> Save as...
4) Enter filename of your 3gp file, and choose resolution and size limit:
MMS 64KB, 128*96

DVdate
DVdate is a powerful utility for processing AVI files in general, and specially AVI DV files. It features many useful functions, easy and fast to apply even to a great number of avi files at one time. For example:
Convert a DV file from type 1 to type 2 (and reciprocally): It is useful when importing files into some video editing software that accept only videos of type 2, like Pinnacle's Studio. DVdate may recognize even some strange DV types, like those produced by Movie Edit Pro and convert them to regular DV types.
Convert a non DV file into a DV file (Pal or NTSC): it is useful when editing a project with DV files, to import easily a video clip, that was compressed with anything else than DV like DivX or Mjpeg.
Convert a DV file from Pal to NTSC or reciprocally: it is useful to make a DVD in NTSC format with a camcorder in DV Pal.
inlay datecode or timecode into the frames of a DV file: it is useful to display the date and time of capture on the screen, like the analog camcorders used to do. This function is highly personalizable, with nice features (change font, position, schedule to display ay each scene change, display the datecode on two lines, adjust the alignment...
Export a text file with the list of scenes from a DV video: it's useful to catalog DV tapes, even to make a database of all scenes for instance in Excel.
Fix the framerate of an avi file : it may fix some out of sync issues, specially when an analog capture board did not set the correct framerate
Rename avi files by adding their datecode or timecode: it's useful when sorting video clips and archiving them.
Many other features are available: extract audio to WAV, fix a time difference, change the FourCC of the codec

As an alternative helge has also provided a link to
DVDSubEdit
DVDSubEdit works with vob files or sup files (created for example by PgcDemux, or VobEdit) and does not require any demuxing/remuxing (it works directly inside the VOB files, and processing is quasi instantaneous).
DVDSubEdit allows you to reposition your subtitles exactly where you want them, horizontally or vertically, for all display modes (4:3, widescreen, letterboxed, pan&scan).
DVDSubEdit lets you change the transparency and the color of each subtitle, or hide them entirely.
DVDSubEdit allows you to resynchronize your subtitles with your video, by changing the start time and the duration.
DVDSubEdit can run an OCR (optical character recognition) algorithm on your subtitles, so you can search them, modify them and export them as .srt.
DVDSubEdit allows you to remove annoying parts in your subtitles (for example, text intended for hearing-impaired persons). You can also selectively remove typos in the subtitles, all this without re-authoring!
DVDSubEdit saves your changes directly inside the vob files (which is very quick), and also lets you export your subs to .sup and .srt format. You can also save individual subs as ppm.
http://www.videohelp.com/~DVDSubEdit/

A fast and high quality sampling rate converter
This program converts sampling rate of PCM wav file. Also, this program has a function to apply dither to its output and extend perceived dynamic range. Sampling rates of 44.1kHz and 48kHz are populary used, but ratio of these two frequency is 147:160, and these are not small numbers. And thus, sampling rate conversion without degradation of sound quality requires filters with very large order, and it's difficult to achieve both quality and speed. This program achieved relatively fast and high quality conversion using two different kinds of filters combined in a smart way.

A program which guesses which MP3 encoder was used to encode a given MP3 file
This is a program which analyzes an MP3 file and guesses which encoder was used. All encoders have some characteristics in encoded MP3 file. For example, Xing encoder never uses short block. This program analyzes which features are used in the given MP3 file and guesses which encoder is used to encode the MP3 file. The guess is not always correct.

A multi-channel deconvolver
Convolution is an important operation frequently used in signal processing. This program performs inverse operation of convolution, which is to obtain the impulse response from input and output of a linear system. This program aims to obtain a result as accurate as possible, sacrificing computation time.

This tool helps to determine the quality of DVDs and or burners / readers. I think this is important, especially since I found often in this forum questions like "What is wrong with my Ulead program. I cannot play the disk created with it." Few people realize that its not so much the software but the combination burner/media which causes the trouble.

HDTVtoMPEG converter

Postby sjj1805 » Fri May 12, 2006 10:20 pm

HDTVtoMPEG converter

tyamada

HDTVtoMPEG converts HDTV MPEG2 transport stream files to standard MPEG2 video files playable (mostly) by media player, many software DVD player programs, and readable by video converters.
http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=HDTVtoMPEG2

I have a Dvico FusionHDTV3 Gold card and ran into the same problem with the .tp files. None of the Ulead products will edit these files without being converted. I tried to use the native mpeg setting to capture and edit video, my results were jerky and very hard to watch. I tried four Ulead programs to make the HD video from the capture and ended up with the same results (MSP8, VS9/10+ and MF5).

The best way to capture the video is if you use .tp file mode and convert the files with HDTVtoMPEG, this utility is very fast and has a very accurate commercial remover included. Then edit your video in the Ulead application of your choice.

From TV_News_Guy

Bill sent me the following email
Hi Steve,
Just noticed something in case you wanted to try it out.
I downloaded koolmoves easy flash animation program. The demo that downloads is full featured. Just comes with saving of animations disabled and puts a watermark accross the background of the movie you create.
Here's the interesting part.
If you make the screen size 720x480 and create a flash animation over a white background and save it as a flash .swf movie file...it works great in MSP7 and MSP8. Using alpha key (actually it turned on alpha key overlay automatically when I layed in on video 2) it keys out the white background "and the watermark".
I know you prolly work in pal.. so use whatever dimensions are good for your projects... but this is a great way to take this product out for a spin.
btw... it seems to work pretty good. And even though I am old and stupid..did not take long for me to create a couple of lil keys and a lower third.
Let me know if you get a chance to take a look.
Bill

The software can be found here: http://www.koolmoves.com/download.html
It works just like Bill mentioned and also works with VideoStudio. You can of course just use it to create swf files for your internet pages.
