WinDVD Pro 11 will not start

Postby Fooby on Thu Mar 29, 2012 4:20 am

I tried to install WinDVD Pro 11 trial software and I got the popup message:

The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing . . .

The installer quit. I tried again and noticed the installer was trying to register direct-x components when the popup occurred so I downloaded the direct-x runtime installer and ran it. The program installed after that no problem.

When I tried to run WinDVD.exe, however, Comodo Defense popped up a message:

rundll32.exe tried to execute shellcode as a result of a possible buffer overflow attack

This is typical of a buffer overflow attack. COMODO Defense+ has already isolated rundll32.exe from the rest of the system and will keep it isolated unless you skip this alert. However, it is still strongly recommended to terminate this application and contact its vendor for a fix.

Comodo gave the choice of terminating the program or skipping the protection. I hit the 'skip' button but the program just quit. This happened several times. Then I disabled Comodo altogether, but even though there was no popup, the program just terminated each time. I've never had a program behave this way.

I rebooted the PC with the same results upon bootup. I tried reinstalling the program but I was only allowed to uninstall it or abort the installer. What is going on and how do I get this to run?

It looks like COMODO Defense+ conflicts with your WinDVD 11 installation. You may want to uninstall WinDVD 11 first, then when you try to install it, I would suggested that you disable COMODO Defense+ before running the installation process.

After installing WinDVD 11, you can then re-enable your COMODO Defense+.

You can easily uninstall windvd 11 via the Windows Control Panel then ADD/REMOVE PRogRAMS
