Anyone Still Using DVDWS2

I have just tried one more attempt to install WS2 on my Vista PC. This appears to have been a SUCCESS and I have installed the patches that I had in XP SP2 mode.

WS2 is working perfectly although there is NO SOUND when previewing newly created video clips.

ALL older video clips have NO VIDEO or AUDIO but the time does run as if playing a clip.

I think it be the CODECS or that there may have been an older patch which I cannot remember.

I hope someone has got WS2 working with Vista or w7 as it does seem like it would be posssible.


Hope someone can help as the newer dvd software available is UTTER RUBBISH.

Unfortunately it has never worked properly on either vista or 7.
I have a dual boot system for my old Xp programmes like Workshop

I still use DVDWS2.
On an XP machine it works perfectly.
On a Win 7 machine I have the audio issue which is not audiable.
In any case I always use compliant MPG2 files which I encode with the Adobe Premier media encoder and
never had any problem.
DVDWS2 is the best authoring program ever.

Yes, I am still using DVD WS. I am using it with Win 7 Ultimate. There was quite a process to get this to work, but this is how to go about it......
Make sure that DirectX 9 gets installed. Once you have installed the DVDWS install disk completely, rigtht click the DVDWS shortcut and click properties. Go to the compatibility tab and set to Windows XP SP3. Unclick "Disable Desktop Composition" otherwise a preview can crash the program.

Windows 7 lacks the d3drm.dll file and you need to do a google search and download this file. This needs to go into the DVDWS2 program folder.

I was going to buy DVD MovieFactory Pro 7 as I was assured by Corel Support that this is the same application as DVDWS. Needlless to say this is totally untrue!!!

I am holding onto DVDWS as long as I can until I absolutely have to go HD video.

HEY COREL Your employees gave me the same BULLS@$%t. You people are really starting to get under my skin. Either bring DVDWS up to date, or make it open source so good folks can make it work.

OR .... WHY DON'T YOU REALLY MAKE MOVIE FACTORY WORK LIKE DVDWS AS YOU FALSELY ADVERTISE, INSTEAD OF CRIPPLING IT AND MAKING IT USELESS, AND FOOLING SOME OF US INTO BUYING THE GARBAGE ????????

A post like that is not going to achieve anything. This is a user to user web board, staffed by volunteers like me who are not Corel employees. Corel execs rarely if ever visit this board, apart from one or two employees who occasionally answer questions on an individual basis. So if you want to make your views known to Corel, I suggest you do it directly to them.

DVD WORKSHOP is the BEST of the BEST dvd authoring tool!
Pity that Corel decided to discontinue such a PERFECT software. DVDWS - in my opinion is the best DVD authoring program ever produced!
There's just nothing around that matches DVDWS for features and ease of use.......
Only needs:
a.Blueray / HD support
b.16:9 menu support
c.Smart Scene menu support

I contact COREL many times ask them for DVD WORKSHOP 3.
WE NEED IT!
All out there they say the best about this software.
WHY COREL DOES NOT UPGRADE IT?
THEY DO NOT WANT MONEY?
I think that many people like us we will buy DVD WORKSHOP 3 provided that it supports the a,b,c aboce.
