VS : Importing DVD Files

Postby Ron P. on Fri Apr 21, 2006 1:01 am

The following is the procedure used to import video files from a DVD...

Updated 07/23/2006.

1. Go to File Menu select Insert Media File (to Timeline or Library)>Insert DVD/DVD-VR

Image

1a. In VS 10 Plus, you will first be presented with the following screen. If you have a DVD in the DVD tray on your computer the drive can be selected from the pull-down menu. If you created DVD Folders, then press the Import DVD Folder button. Then the same browse dialogue window will open.

Image

2. Then select Browse and navigate to your DVD drive and the Video-TS folder, click OK.

Image

3. This will open up a dialogue box containing the Scenes and a bit of information about them. The first screenshot is for VS8.

Image

3a. This is a screenshot from VS9.

3b. This is what it will look like in VS10 +

4. Then select the scenes you want to import. You can also choose to Trim some or all of the scenes you want to import. Once you have selected the scene(s) VS should now import them into the Library or Timeline.

Hope that helps...:)

this post look very helpful ... but when I click on the "Insert Media File (to Timeline or Library)" - I do not have the option of Insert DVD/DVD-VR.

The only options I have are Insert Video, Insert Image and Insert Audio.

Any thoughts?

Many Thanks

Welcome to the forums Khoekman,

First what program and version are you using? Is it a SE version? To determine the version click on the ? and select About....
Some SE and VE versions will have limitations. They are free versions that come bundled with hardware or included in magazines, are a marketing method to get you to buy the full version of the product.

Imported DVD with Dolby in VS8

Postby Bruce5m on Sun Mar 18, 2007 7:28 pm

I have imported clips from a DVD using VS8. The resulting clips have Dolby Audio (48 KHz, 384 kpbs). When I play the imported clips with Windows Media Player, there is an audio track. But, within VS8, the clips do not have any sound. It seems funny that VS8 will allow media files with Dolby to be imported, but doesn't support the imported clip.

I have seen other postings that indicate that VS8 doesn't support Dolby. I understand that there may be plug-ins to allow VS8 to support Dolby. Can anyone help me find them?

Is there another work-around solution?

Thanks.

Import DVD toULEADSTUDIO V8

Postby mikebosy1 on Fri Apr 27, 2007 7:41 am

Hi
I had this problem, have found out that the plugins are no longer available. What I did for a 4 minute DVD clip that I transfered sound was to copy the sound into my audio edit program and save as an mp3 file.
Then opened up UleadStudio v 8 with the imported DVD clip on timelime and added the mp3 original sound to audio track. Then adjusted sound track to sychronise with video. It took me 6 mins. and I burnt the video to DVD and the grandchildren love it! (it was a cartoon with my grandchildren added with chromakey and picture in a picture.
Meanwhile I have upgraded tp v 10+ which I am informed by Ulead Support will support AC3 and Dolby imports. (hope they are right!!

Dolby is built in from VS9 upwards.
I do not think the Dolby plug in for earlier versions is available any longer.

Thanks for the tip. I ended up solving my problem by downloading a trial version of VS 10 (which supports AC3) - and using the "Batch Convert" Tool to change the audio format. Then I was able to work with the files in VS 8. The benefit of this approach was the avoidance of any audio synch issues. But, I'm sure I spent more than 6 minutes on this process.

Cheers.

From VideoStudio 9 and above the import from DVD routine was enhanced.
There are two methods of importing the DVD. You can either Import as one large video file or you can import as several smaller video files.
The following screen shots will explain.

Don't go down to the actual VOB files but stop at the folder

And it won't work if the files are not in a folder called VIDEO_TS. Lots of programs create DVD folder structures without that structure and VS (11.5 plus anyway) doesn't find them. I created a new subfolder called VIDEO_TS, moved the VOB files into that, and then video studio found them.
