PSP X3 and RAW Camera Files

Postby kchildress » Mon Nov 08, 2010 2:07 pm

Greetings from a Corel Web Board newbie!

Looking for a little help with an error message I am getting when trying to open RAW files with PSP X3. The error message simply states, "An error has occurred while trying to read from the file".

I find nothing useful in the X3 user guide (PDF file) related to RAW file preferences. I’ve looked at the online help and have followed the instructions I found there for file preferences … no change. Could I be overlooking something in this area?

Using PSP X3, version 13.0.0.253
My camera RAW files are .RAF files which appears in the supported file list

I’ll leave it at that for now … would appreciate any feedback you may have!

Best regards,

Kevin

The extension isn't the important part of RAW files. It's the camera it comes from. Take two cameras whose RAW files end in .RAF, even if produced by the same company, can have different RAW formats.

You need to make sure your camera is supported before trying to open it in Paint Shop Pro.

Here's a link to the table of supported camera formats.

However, it's suggested most often that you use teh software provided by your camera manufacturer. Because this software is designed to work specifically with your camera RAW format. And it will often provide the best results. You can then export/save as a 16-bit TIFF so that you don't lose any information and do any extra edits in Paint Shop Pro.

This isn't to suggest that Paint Shop Pro's RAW editor is bad, but it doesn't support all possible operations, and doesn't always provide the best results. Best to use what you have the best chance with.

Hello kchildress,

I'm from Corel Support.

You want to check if the camera that you are using is included on the digital camera RAW file formats that PSP X3 can support. You can locate the list from this link. You may also want to update your PSP X3 by clicking on the HELP > CHECK FOR UPDATES or just download the update from this link.

Thanks all for the feedback ... much appreciated!!

So my camera isn't on the list for PSP X3's RAW lab function. I see there are quite a few Fuji models there and obvioiusly Corel has done some work with Fuji's .RAF files in the past ...

... anyway of determining if Corel is developing capability for Fuji's Finepix HS10?

... according to Fuji's helpdesk, the HS10 is "their best camera"; surely Corel would want to support RAW files from Fuji's "best"
