Capturing movies from analog device (sat. receiver) via RCA plugs. As I said earlier, I get a picture but no audio being recorded. Audio is present while recording but not being recorded. Also after I install VS5X all previously recorded files that have AC3 will play the picture without audio in WMP 10. This also applies to AC3 audio files.

Hi

Can you give more info regarding the hardware you are using.

If you are using composite cables then they are somehow connected to the pc.
Either via a USB device, analogue to digital converter or capture card.
Each type of connection will produce different capture options within Video Studio, so I cannot replicate your situation.

If its a USB device then make sure the audio input is selected as USB.

Are you able to play the video with audio on your pc without using Video Studio? I guess yes.

Check your PC's recording devices properties to make sure that the correct input has been selected.
The recording properties default to Line-In, only one input can be selected, make sure you have selected the correct one?

Hi Trevour,

I have managed to solve the audio problem. I am using an on board sound device but for some reason VSX5 is not "seeng it". Luckily my capture card has an audio input scocket. So feeding the audio input to it has solved the problem.

I will now construct a toggle switch so that I will be able to switch from the card socket to the input socket on the MOBO. I need to have it for some older applications that do not recognize the pass through.

I also needed to install an AC3 filter since after installing VSX5 all my previous movies and audio files with AC3 did not play :?
Every thing is working fine now :D

Hi

Digital Dolby AC3 filter has been used by Video Studio since VS 8, from then on it has been a full feature of Video Studio.

So it should work without installing additional filters

If you have installed additional codecs or AC3 filters then these may have causing some conflict.

No problem if you now have it working.

I have the old InterVideo WinDVR 3 installed and before WMP 10 has been defaulting to the InterVideo codecs. So I suspect that it has been that which has been causing the conflict. Now WMP shows InterVideo filter for the picture and the AC3 for the audio. All is working fine.
I also have been editing a couple of title menu templates in PIX3 and they appear to work fine.
There is one other thing regarding the aspect ratio in the preview window, which is showing a veritcally streached picture. However the captured movie plays fine with the intended AR of 16:9.

Hi

If the image is of a video then it seems that VS is thinking the video is 4:3 when I assume the original (before capture) is 16:9

This may be the way you have captured the video, check your capture settings.

With the video in the timeline, right click and select properties, what are they?

Try this to correct the aspect

Change project properties to 16:9 (Settings-tick Wide-screen_)
Select clip in timeline
Choose Attributes tab below library
Tick Distort
Right click preview screen-Fit to screen
Right click and Keep aspect ratio, may be required.
