VS X4 Mutes Segment Audio When Adding Overlays

Postby Wirelessground on Wed May 23, 2012 7:06 pm

Hey Guys,

Apologies if this issue has been addressed in the past or seems a bit newbish, but it looks as if i have come to a dead end in trying to remedy the problem. And cannot seem to find anything related when searching.

I have been producing many (4k+) videos in the last two years for my employer with trial versions of x3 and x5 without issues - as my latest trial on x5 has expired my company has decided to go ahead and purchase x4. You can see examples of what im doing here - http://www.youtube.com/user/wirelessgro ... sults_main

The software is muting the audio attached to my segments upon "sharing" them to MPEG 4 - HD.

I record the video on a Sony HDR-Cx110, these files save as .mts. I drag and drop these files into the editor, top and tail them with my intro/outro video and add in two layers - This is where i think the issue comes in. After i add in the two layers the audio from the main segment goes mute. Clicking on "project" allows for the audio to play with the entire project, however when i "share" the project to mepg4-hd the main segments audio goes mute again and my finished product is ruined.

This is also inconsistent. Sometimes this will happen other times it will not. Also after the conversion process to mpeg4 hd has finished i can play the project in the editor with all audio, however when i play the mp4 it has produced the audio from the main segment it mute.....sometimes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I feel like this is a pretty simple fix, however i cannot seem for the life of me to fully remedy the situation.

Thanks

Sean the cell phone accessories guy on youtube....

Welcome to the forums ... though I am a bit puzzled why your company would fork out for X4 when you were trying out X5!

First, though, what exactly were these "layers" you mention? Were they video or audio tracks? If video, what format were they?

Second, is there any specific reason you are producing mpeg-4 HD as opposed to AVCHD? I assume you realise that your original .mts are already AVCHD, and that AVCHD in turn is already mpeg-4 though produced with the h.264 codec?

Hey Ken, thank you for the response and welcoming.

X4 was about 30 bucks on Amazon and we don't need the advanced bells and whistles for what we are doing. My process from x3 to x4 to x5 did not change and none of the new "features" from version to version were needed. And I demanded a free pair of 3d glasses :P

I only call them layers becuase im using the "overlay" tracks for their placment. These are rather small picture .png files that can be seen top left/bottom right in all of our videos.

There is not a specific reason other than the boss man needs the videos uploaded to Youtube in full HD and through the process of figuring out how to do all of this that is how i ended up making it happen. I was unfortunately unaware that the AVCHD files and mpeg-4 hd files were essentially one in the same (until now of course:idea:) . And mp4 video and mp3 audio seem to be more "native" to youtube...

FWIW, I used to be the video reviewer for Wirefly, a semi-competitor for your company. I did hundreds of video cell phone reviews for Wirefly with VideoStudio x3 and x4, almost all of them using overlay tracks. My guess is that you have something set wrong in your render settings. If you are uploading to YouTube, render the videos as AVCHD files and see if that retains the audio. As an alternate, you can render to WMV files. Both AVCHD and WMV files will upload to YouTube with no problem, although they take longer for YouTube to process than MPEG-4 files.

I also thought that Amazon's $30 price for x4 is excellent, and I recommended it to a friend just a few days ago.

BTW, you're excellent on camera... I enjoyed your presentations!
