GoPro MP4 - Bad quality video

Postby gazpoz on Tue Apr 10, 2012 9:59 am

Hi,
I'm filming with my HERO2 in 720P 60fps.
In X5 I join a few clips etc. and output film to MP4 with 30fsp.
Video quality gets very bad, worse than expected.

What would be the "best practice settings" etc. ?
Shoot in higher res ? Shoot with higher or lower fps ? Another way to export ?

I basically would like to get the best "HD"-quality for youtube in the end...

Win7 64bit
Intel Core i7

I would suggested that you check the option "Same as Project Settings." this option will allow you to export the video using the original settings of your video.

Sorry Abiel, but that presumes he has set the project settings to match what he wants in his output. If he leaves it at the default Project Properties, then he will get DVD quality mpeg-2. He apparently wants mp4.

But I am not sure why he is specifcally choosing mp4. Why isn't he choosing AVCHD as the output format. Or else using Custom and choosing mpeg-2 Transport Stream as the output format which, as we know, also allows the choice of AVCHD mpeg-4 as output?

Hi

Changing the frame rate from 60 to 30 is going to impact on quality

These are the settings that VS X5 uses by default to create a HD video for You Tube
(Share - Upload to Web-YouTube-Mpeg4 HD 16-9)

MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 25 fps this is for Pal???? Ntsc is probability 30fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 5000 Kbps
44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps

Are you able to set the GoPro to use similar properties for capture.

Where are you, are you using Pal or Ntsc?

From the timeline .......Right click one of your video files and select properties, the frame size should indicate if you are using 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio.
