Screen capture in X5 Pro Ultimate

Postby e_a_g_l_e_p_i on Sat Apr 07, 2012 6:55 am

I have been playing around with the screen capture fature of X5 Pro Ultimate and I am having problems.

When I set the capture to custom and then drag the frame/window or whatever you call it around the section I want to capture it always captures too high and then cuts off bottom. If I capture in full screen is there a crop feature?

The things I want to capture have a window within the full page and I am trying to capture just the window, ie. a Youtube or any other web based video. the dragghing custom isn't working and I see not crop option.

Hope someone can help me out

Ron

There is no crop function within the screen capture other than the fact that you *should* be able to define the crop area when you drag the capture rectangle - I cannot explain why it does not work correctly on your system - no help to you I know but it works fine on my PC.

The only workaround I can suggest is that after you have made the capture you put the resulting video in to VideoStudio and use the cropping tools there - I would suggest a little experimentation first as to how much of the screen you need to capture as capturing full screen and then cropping down to a small video would result in a quite poor resolution video.

That is what I was asking, if I capture the full screen can I then take the capture into VideoStudio and crop just the part I want. If the answer is yes will you please explain how I do this?

Thanks
Ron

after you have captured the screen you will have a file called 'Capture.wmv' in your working folder - by default "My Projects" - insert that into the timeline of VideoStudio and click on 'FX' next to the preview screen - from the library pane which opens choose the 'Crop Borders' filter and drag it down on top of the video. Open the 'Options' panel and choose "Customise Filter" in order to set which area you need to remain. Then go "Share >> Create Video File" and save a new video file with just the bit you want in it.

Instead of cropping after the fact, just select the window that you want to capture from the Screen Capture list that will drop down when you click the diamond. Of course the window you want to capture has to be open or minimized. The rectangle will be precisely placed around the desired window, and the window will be opened if it is minimized.

I think he was selecting Custom, and then trying to drag the corners of the rectangle around the window. All he needs to do is select the title of the window from the list.

That doesn't work for me - if I select a programme from that drop down list it captures that programme full screen - with the custom setting and "freehand selection" you can just drag a rectangle around a specific part of the screen.

Okay Brian, I'll play around to see why it works for me and what makes it not work.

Hi Guys

I dont seem to be having any problems.................

Select the Custom option
Using the keyboard manually input 1280 x 720 as the capture area size. This will set the capture frame size. Otherwise drag the capture frame to the size you require.

Resize the window you wish to capture, or re-size X5 to fit the capture size

The capture will create a video using 1280 x 720, a standard size.

I can change the capture screen to any proportion with no problems.

Selecting the Window from the drop down list re-sizes the capture area correctly.
Automatically selecting the window

If the Selected Window is minimised, sat on the tool bar it automatically restores and shows on the desktop with the capture area selected.

Yes - like Trevor I have no problem at all in capturing whatever I want - but if we go right back to the top to Ron's original problem - when he draws a rectangle on-screen it does not capture the area defined but an area slightly higher up the screen - hence his problem and request as to how to crop his capture. Kingston then suggested that you could define the area to capture by using the drop down in the capture control - but if I do that I can only capture the full window of the selected programme.

Hi

Ok i have just captured an area of the screen, manually defined the area to capture.
It captures the area exactly as selected, no problems.

I'll explain exactly what is happening for me when I try to do a custom capture. I want to capture things like Youtube video's or other things that are only a part of the whole webpage.

This is what it looks like when I select custom and then click the drag option and drag the window around what I want to capture.

This is what it looks like when I stop the capture and it goes into VSP, notice how it is way off

Hope this helps you guys understand what is happening to me when I try to capture just a part of a webpage, it isn't doing what it should.???

I just captured this browser page and scrolling it up and your post was captured perfectly. I think the issue is capturing a window with video in it. I don't think any capture of a video playing will ever be possible as this would violate copyright... Al

I'm not so sure about the problem being video, it does capture video just not what you select so if it was a copyright thing it would still be a violation.. but lets not get caught up on copyright there is a issue with VSP.

Here is a non video capture
Image

here is when it goes into VSP
Image

So as you can see it isn't jusy video, this was part of my screen
