VSP X5 screen capture not working

Postby angelarch on Sun Apr 01, 2012 5:53 am

hi all-
My VideoStudio Pro X5 screen capture starts up, looks like it is about to start recording with a countdown, then pops up an error and stops.

When I saw X5 had built in screen capture I was elated, this was the feature I was most excited about. So as soon as I finished installing I tried it. . . was so disappointed that it wouldn't work. I have a 2 monitor setup, the capture window has the options to record from either window, but when I click them on neither side works. I tried just capturing applications, none work, same error. Tried making a custom window, on either monitor, big or small, still same error.

I've seen videos of it working in tutorials, so it must work somehow. I am surprised I am having a problem since I consider my system a fairly normal setup, if not better than normal.

I have a win7 64bit, G74SX, Intel i7, 16 GB ram, geforce GTX 560m 2GB, 1TB total HD.

The error popup says 'VSSCap' in the title bar, and "Prepare Record Failed!!! #0" in the body of the text.

Anyone know what that error is? Any idea if there is a fix to get this working?

Any help appreciated, thnx!

Hi angelarch

welcome to the forums

I have used the screen capture without problems, some users have had audio capture problems when capturing system audio.

The program is relatively new so not many of us have had experience in using it, certainly this issue is the first I have heard of.

I have tried a few options in trying to simulate your problem, although i do not have duel monitors.

Have you tried running the capture on a single monitor.

Corel Support may be your best option.

I have this same issue. Screen capture does not work..

I have uploaded a print screen capture of the error that pops up "Prepare Record Failed!!! #0".

This happens regardless of what I am trying to do a screen capture on. I can select a blank area on my desktop and get the same error.

I received that error message after I accidentally unregistered qcap.dll while playing around with the Codec Tweak Tool trying to fix other things. That file is found in C:\windows\system32.

Fortunately, I have a utility, RADLIGHT FILTER MANAGER, that let me register that DLL again. In Windows XP you can also register it from a command prompt with the command REGSVR32 c:\windows\system32\qcap.dll

Of course all of this means nothing to you if qcap.dll is already registered.

My screen capture works but doesn't work right, when I set my area to capture justing the drag feature and then when done and I bring it into VSP the window I captured is always off.. there is a serious bug on my version

Hope someone figures it out

There are some windows you won't be able to capture, especially if video is playing in them, like when you are playing a DVD. Is that what is happening to you?

I think that because of copyright, no video playing will be captured... Al
