VS X4; Instant Project Templates

Postby Ron P. on Wed Feb 23, 2011 5:24 am

Have others noticed that the Instant Project templates, are not being displayed/showing up the Instant Project Menu? This is after downloading and installing them. I would like to know if this is just on my computers, or if everyone is experiencing this. If so I'm going to contact Corel. This was not the case with the alpha or beta versions that I was involved in testing. When the Templates were downloaded and installed, you would see all of them in their respective categories in the Instant Project wizard. Currently I need to manually install them, and this only installs to the Custom category, which is suppose to be for Templates that you create, have received from others, or purchased.

Please post advising either way, if they didn't install properly or if they did.

Thank you..

I was just about to post this issue with my install when I saw your post. I have downloaded all the templates, a lot of them by the way. The More shows they are installed, but I have no idea where to see them in the program... Al

Thank you for your response.

I have received clarification on this. Basically any of the Packs will or should install to one of the Libraries/Categories. All others will not, as they are deemed to be user created, and can be Loaded into the Custom Library/Category.

Hello,

I can confirm that the current SINGLE templates that one downloads do need to be manually added. Generally, the templates do state so with the following instructions at the end of the installation:

To use the new installed template:
1) In Video Studio Pro click on the Instant Project button above your timeline.
2) Select the "Import a Project Template" button
3) Use the file window to import your new template.
4) Once you have imported the template, you will find it in the "Custom" category in the drop-down project list.

The "Import a Project Template" is near the top-left of the "Instant Project" window; it will be to the left of the Orange Corel Guide button, and to the right of the "Select a Project Drop Down"

Image

The templates will be saved in their own folder in the "Corel Video Studio Pro" in your "Documents/My Documents". You may have to go one up level to see the folder. For example, the grunge template will be in the "Grunge" folder, and one would select the "UserTemplateStyle.vpt" file within that folder.

Thanks for your instructions, I was successful. However, the templates while many of them, are not presented very well. There are no labels to identify them. One is left with the only way to tell them apart is to select them and watch the preview that takes a long time to start and to play. It would be much better to be able to label them somehow, or have the templates identify themselves as the first frame or something like that. I think X3 handled these instant projects better... Al

Downloading and installing the templates was a pain in the a$$......

update.... in the full version (rather than the TBYB ver) it makes more sense.

Perhaps this Template Tip I made will help? Click here: http://bit.ly/TemplateTip

Feb 23 2012 Tip Update:

This tip has now been seen 1000 times!
http://bit.ly/CorelTipsHits

The Corel screencast tutorials are fine for quick start new users.
I want to see a collection of screencasts for advanced users.

The problem is not content, the problem is delivery.
David Ogilvy's books outline solutions for delivery.

No special settings were used to make the screencast.
This was an ad libbed unscripted recording.

Sometimes I shoot first, ask questions later.
I have to write scripts.

I hate writing scripts.
Good copy needs five full re-writes or they are no good!
When I write a scripts my screencasts are better.

Will my example encourage Corel to deliver better content to customers?
I hope so.

The problem is not content, the problem is delivery. Video delivers.
Corel will sell more with better screencasts.

I doubled sales for a Los Angeles client by changing their product story.
The product did not change for 7 years.

David Ogilvy managed 19 years for Hathaway Shirts & Dove Soap.
Steve called. He managed 5 years.

The problem is not content, the problem is delivery.
Your library delivers free content for you!

Get every book David wrote.
Read them. Remember them. Re-Used them.

None of my screencasts have scripts.
Screencasts are much better when I sweat over scripts.

The problem is not content, the problem is delivery.
Corel can sell more with better screencasts.

Mark,
Are you using the Trial or purchased version? When you purchase the program, you will get links in an email from Corel, to download the Contents and Bonus files. These will install to the various Instant Project Libraries/Categories, and all the Sample videos, images, and audio.

Ron

I have been using the trial version while waiting for my boxed version to arrive.
Now that it has all I did was use the serial number on the DVD to get the trial version activated.
I have not received any email so does this mean I won't get those bonus extras unless I completely uninstall and re-install with the supplied DVD?
It used to be on past versions the bonus stuff was on separate folders on the CD/DVD but that no longer appears to be the case.
Perhaps its all download now or the extras are on the DVD but compressed and I have to use it to install.

Maybe I should be directing this one to Corel.

Thx

The TBYB will not have the Contents and the Bonus files. If you don't see any such files on your CD or DVD, then I would suggest you need to uninstall your TBYB, and install your full version. I don't have a boxed version, so I don't know how they're handling that. It would seem by what you're saying, they should be installed with the full program.

Bingo
That was it. Uninstall-ed the TBYB version and then installed from the disk and there were all the regular extras.
Nothing new so I really didn't gain anything. I could have just pulled these from the SAMPLE folder in VSX3.
Oh well live and learn.

Re: VS X4; Instant Project Templates

I have a slightly different problem - might be better in a new thread, but here goes:

VS4 crashed after I had installed about 15 templates. Now the templates don't show in the custom window, but when I try to reinstall them, I'm told the template already exists. Other templates installed after that show up fine (only viable solution: install 5 or six, shutdown, restart, install five or six, shut down, restart - repeat until complete). But the 15 or so I had installed before the crash are invisible to me, but not to VS4.

How can I uninstall the non-showing templates and re-install them? Is there a file I can edit or delete? Is there a way to force it to refresh the list? I'
ve searched for an XML ir INI file, but can't see one.

The only option I can see otherwise is to unintall the entire program then re-install - but that's a serious pain and would prompt me to look at getting a more stable program instead.

My system has 8GB RAM, Win 7, 500 GB hard drive (300 BG available), 1 GB ATI card... so it's not my system that's lacking. Most other programs behave well and seldom if ever crash. It crashes with astounding frequency on Win 7 and is the least stable of a hundred or so apps I use regularly. VS4 crashes every time I open it and work for more than a few minutes. After that, it's usually stable for the rest of the session. If I close it after a minute or two, and re-open it, it usually doesn't crash, but does sometimes.

Welcome to the forums,

Are the 15 templates from the Corel Guide, that you download inside of VS? If so then look in your C:\Users\Your User Name\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro folder. That's where they are placed when you install them. There's another place where the actual download files, that has the installer are located. They should be in one of the folders found under C:\ProgramData\Corel\Downloads. There should be an *.exe and an *.xml file.
