VideoStudio X5 trial - problem installing

Postby xerxes2 on Fri Mar 09, 2012 2:44 pm

Have just spent ages downloading a trial version of VideoStudioX5 (1.33 GB) only to find that it won’t install. Instead I get the error message:

>SetupNew\setup.cpp (140)
PAPP:
PVENDOR:
PGUID:
$
@Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (7601)
IE Version: 9.0.8112.16421

This refers to IE 9.0, but I actually downloaded the trial using Firefox 10.0.2. I am using a fully uptodate version of Windows 7 64 bit.

Doesn't seem a promising start. Any suggestions?
Thanks

You may want to try and create a new windows vista user name with admin rights, then login to that new user name and run the installation using the new user name. The problem could be with the user profile on your Windows Vista.

Thanks. I tried installing via a new admin account as suggested, but I get the same error message as before even though this is a brand new PC running Windows 7 and Vista has never been installed. Very annoying.

I've had problems in the past installing earlier versions of VS, so I am not exactly encouraged to find a problem at this stage. In addition, I have just seen that VSX5 still doesn't support 64 bit operation, so what with Windows 8 (the largest rewrite since 1995?) being imminent, I think I will stick with XSX2 for the present and see what VSX6 provides!

Same issue...except I paid for the upgrade from X4 and downloaded last night. Not a trial. Been an avid user of Corel Videostudio since Ulead Video Studio 11...seems like each time I upgrade, there's an issue to overcome...now I upgrade to X5, and get this:

>SetupNew\setup.cpp (140)
PAPP:
PVENDOR:
PGUID:
$
@Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (7601)
IE Version: 9.0.8112.16421

I have tried everything to get this executable to run...error says something aboute Vista- I have W7 Professional. Tech specs say it can run 64 bit, and can run on W7...and I've tried loading in safe mode- no luck.

I like the product. Just get frustrated when I run into these issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You might want to check in Windows Task Manager > Services, to see if you have an entry for 'ProtexisLicensing'. And if so, make sure it is running...

Ken,

Under Services (Local), Protexis Licensing V2" is "started". Tried stopping and starting, also stopped and tried it...to no avail. This was not found under task manager as far as services running...

Appreciate the quick response...any other thoughts?

Ken...I got it. I cleared download history and re-downloaded...worked. Should have tried that first. Sure appreciate your response though. Nice to know you are here! God Bless!

Hi all,
Similar problem to the above while trying to install x5 on my pc. I have tried the above solutions, but to no avail. I am currently running X4. This is the message I get when trying to run the .exe file:

>SetupNew\setup.cpp (140)
PAPP:
PVENDOR:
PGUID:
$
@Windows Vista Service Pack 3 (2600)
IE Version: 9.0.9200.16453

Here are my PC specs:

Type: Advent DT2412
OS: Windows 8 (64-bit)
Processor Intel Core i7-3770
Ram: 16GB (4 x4 DDR3 1333)
Graphics card: MSI NVidia GT630 2GB DDR3

To update the above with a solution, choose to 'run' the download rather than 'save' or 'save as'. Uninstall x4, or earlier version, beforehand. Also clear download history beforehand. Hey presto, it runs smoother than an ice-cold lager on a hot day.

Hi Andy

There was another post referring to a similar problem

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=48777&p=261793#p261793

From your comments the small file would seem to be a link to a web installer? And yes I got the same error message.
I assume you did download the small file rather than the 1.22Gb one?
